Carrara and the marble

SHARE:
The great deep-rooted marble operators tradition that have been indicated in time such as sculptors, stonecutters, etc. was born long ago in Versilia and Carrara in which Alpi Apuane lie. From their land many artists worked everywhere in Italian and European yards. Since 1300 end some versilian sculptors dynasties began to emerge. We remember Pardini family, in which Antonio and Bonuccio distinguished theirselves by building Lucca cathedral and Pietrasanta baptismal font (1389).
Their work remembers Pisa style tradition, such as the same to which Andrea and Nino have been related. In 1400 Riccomanni family distinguished itself with Riccomanno and his son Leonardo by building Pietrasanta Sant’Agostino church(1431). Leonardo’s studio worked repeatedly in Tuscany and Liguria, where we can find the two famous altar shovels in Sarzana and a marble triptych in San Pantaleone church in Pieve a Elici (1470).
In Pietrasanta tradition Stagi studio distinguished better itself thanks to Lorenzo and his son Stagio, who was very important for the originality we can find in two holy-water fonts and in the candelabrums in Pietrasanta cathedral.
Another personality emerges between these artists which has the name of Donato Benti, who was well-known as Michelangelo best friend. He built a tabernacle in Sant’Agostino church which today has been used as baptismal font in Cardoso.
